Faithful Nest

Living faithful in a faithless world

Kaleidoscope: WIR

Each week I post to the ArtRoot Writer-in-Residence page. Have you ever been invited to dance without knowing what the song or music would be? Finding a rhythm to dance to before even entering the dance floor was interesting. If you review my series of posts, you will find them alphabetical. As basic as that is, it provides a solid basis for my material.

As a writer-in residence, I am looking for ways to develop my work and writer persona. Using this time to build my knowledge of marketing writing has developed naturally. Coinciding with the release of my first book of poetry, Breath Mark, I hear the call to brand and market myself.

Over the years I have learned to be much more grateful to those who help me. One of the best ways is to show appreciation to them. Adam Booth at Vintage and Modern Books of Racine has been a tireless promoter and example since the start of this residency. I cannot dismiss his strong example of daily market awareness. The two editors of my book, Peg Roušar-Thompson and Samira Gdisis, improved my work and its presence in many ways. Their thoughtful critique led my book to a higher ground.

I will be at Vintage and Modern Books (415 6th St, Racine) on Tuesdays from 12:30 to 2:30 to write in public and interact with anyone who wants to talk writing. See you there!
